Thinking about animal testing

By Brian Webb

I'm doing a story on an animal testing company called Covance, hoping to build a facility in Chandler.

To stop it, several animal rights groups are sending a graphic video to some 23,000 registered voters this week.

I watched the video myself today on an animal-rights Web site, pcrm.org. It shows monkeys being tested at the company. Some of it is pretty hard to watch.

I interviewed a woman in Chandler about getting a DVD like that.

She said that if animal testing can help people, she is for it.But she really doesn't want to see it in her home. I would have to agree.

It's a tough call and the video is even tougher to watch.Few people want to see any living thing used as a guinea pig.

But if it helps people in the future, is it the right thing to do?

I'll admit, it makes you think.

I guess that's mission accomplished by the animal rights groups, huh?
