Resolutions

It's that time of the year again...time for people to make their resolutions for the new year. I've never been much of a resolution maker or keeper for that matter, but this year I was going to do it. I thought about the typical ones first...get back in the gym...get more sleep...call my loved ones more. No, those just weren't going to do it. I couldn't think of anything... that is until I met Richard Le. Richard is 18. On December 27th, around 8:00pm, he said he was in his room at his home in Scottsdale when his stepfather shot and killed his mother and sister. While Richard says his stepfather shot him too, he fought back and ended up stabbing his stepfather to death. A few days after this happened I got in touch with Richard. As a reporter, this is one of the most uncomfortable positions you can ever been in... Contacting someone who has been through the unthinkable and asking if he wants to share his story. Richard had a lot of questions about how it would work, but just minutes into our conversation he said you know what? "I want to do it, I want to tell the world about my sister and my mother." That's just what he did and that's not all. Despite everything he'd been through, the images that he can't get out of his head, the sounds of gunshots that he hears over and over, Richard handed out some advice for others. He said, "love your mothers, love your syblings, you never know when they're going to go." My resolution this year? I'm not going to take anything for granted, but appreciate everything I have.
