allergy sufferers...
By Kirsten Joyce
To those of you who suffer from allergies...
Are there any of you out there who thought moving to Arizona would solve your allergy problems?
I *was* one of them, but have come to realize that moving here would not rid me of them... I think they're actually a bit worse.
I'm not complaining.. just inquiring as to how you all get by.
What do you take... what can you take that doesn't make you drowsy?
Who out there gets an allergy shot.. and if so... does it work immediately.. or do you build up resistance over time...
Does anyone know of a good allergy specialist in town? I'll take all and any advice from our lovely viewers.. thank you for taking the time to share your stories.. and hopefully happy endings with what works.. and what doesn't! :) Kirsten

My allergies didn't start until my mid-30's and I'm 51 now. I do get an allergy shot, sometimes spring and fall. It is called decodrin or something like that. It seems to work within a few days and lasts at least 2 months. When the season has been bad I've had them more often. My family doctor gives them to me, so maybe yours will too. Otherwise, Advil Sinus and Allergy works pretty good.

When I moved to Arizona in 2001 the only allergy I had (growing up in Ohio) was hayfever. Then I got a couple of allergies out there. One was to the smell of the dirt (or something) after it rained and two the orange blossoms. I took Alavert when it became available over the counter. Then for a reason I shant tell I had to move back to oh no, Ohio. I was 51 at the time and when spring broke here I was allergic to everything that grows here. Not lying. I now take two shots to desensitize. In other words get me used to everything that wants to kill me. Someday, when the condo sells we, my husband and I or just myself is going to move back to Arizona. My sister is still there. Another untold story.

I have been receiving allergy treatments for 10 years. Allergy shots have been the most beneficial. I get 3 shots each week. In 2005 I only went for shots once or twice a month, and I was sick with chronic sinus infections from Oct to April! After that I made sure I got my shot every week, and this past winter I only got sick once. I also take Allegra, Singular and Flonase daily, which helps control the daily allergy symptoms. If you don't take anything for your allergies now, you should try Claritin over the counter. That worked for me for a few years until I built up a tolerance to it and had to switch to Allegra. I would recommend doctors Duane Wong, Robert Hellmers or Robert Bridge. Check out www.azallergy.com or www.northvalleyent.net. Hope this helps!!!
