'Happy' Anniversary?

By Heather Moore

I wake up yesterday morning...it's April 23. That date seems significant...yet it takes me a few minutes to remember why.
It was on this day, 13 years ago, I took the plunge.
It was a marriage that lasted nearly a decade, and came to an end a few years ago...one from which my three awesome kids were born.
So later that afternoon, I'm speaking to my ex-hubby...a basketball coach... on the phone about the kids, when I blurt out, 'happy anniversary!'
....I'm wondering the appropriateness of this spontaneous comment...but what else do you say? Do you remember? Acknowlege? Celebrate the fact that at one time you were committed to someone who you loved and loved you?
My gut feeling, is yes.
We took a sec to reminiesce about that day...how we decided to tie the knot on a Tuesday and by that Saturday, we were married.
How he limped down the aisle after getting injured on the basketball court the day before...so painful he ended up in a wheelchair later that night before the celebrations ended....and, bless his heart....NBA playoffs were of course, going on at the time...so a big screen was not far away at any point of our special night.
Any surprise we are not still together???? (I write this with a smile)
Bottom line, I'm sure a lot of people may be able to relate to this perhaps-awkward moment...but life moves us along and when we look back to who we were and decisions we made in the past to where we are now, hopefully we've grown and have many good thoughts to remember about relationships, along with the differences we share.
This month I celebrate another anniversary....it's been a whole year since my current guy and I have been dating. Happy Anniversary!

Heather, you are so lovely to look at and to listen to - even when the news is bad - and I'm sure you are a lovely person in general. I think the "coach"
lost out big time!

Your new guy is fortunate to have you and better realize it!

Being now closer to 40 than to 30 I understand where your coming from. Every childs birthday and anniversary makes me look back......atleast for a couple of minutes anyway! As far as the short skirts go, being a product of the 80's I'm all for them.

Happy Anniversaries...we miss your smiling face on KCRA. I was visiting AZ this week, caught you on TV and found your blog, glad I did, I hope all continues to go well for you here in AZ, thinking about a move here myself.

Heather: Happy birthday on Monday! Great attitude about your anniversary. I'm a single attorney who has raised a daughter from age 2 - now 19 years old, a great person, and a freshman in college. Hardest and best thing I ever did. I can't imagine raising 3 kids (especially now headed into the teenage years), much less having graduated Magna Cum Laude from USC! (I went to Princeton & know what a challenge that had to be!) Great for you! I shre many of the interests you list on your blog and profile (Az sunsets, sporting events, "real people", and my mom was even a court reporter! Glad you're in Phoenix, and wish you all the very best. Preston

We do miss your smiling face in Sacramento! You must be unforgetable... The asparagus festival just passed by, summer on the river is coming and sometime very soon is another great day... All the best to a very special woman and to the man that holds her heart. Go USC!

Heather,
I think it is great you are still friendly with your children's father. He will always be a part of your life, because and for them if nothing more. I am still a very good friend of my ex and I adore his new wife.
You are a beautiful person and I'm sure very compasionate, I would not expect you to be anything but friendly.
Have a great day.

Hello Heather.......

For some strange reason; I checked your name through Google; after having a conversation with MY ex. She told me your "coach" had called her recently and updated her on his going's on, etc. Your name got brought, of course, in positive ways, mind you.

Anyway, I just read your blog here and read that wonderful and heartfelt 'diddy' you wrote and I must admit; I got pretty emotional. I can/could relate to what you wrote. I laughed as well, seeing your 'coach' stumbling down the aisle at your wedding and the wheelchair comment; I just about laughed up a lung??

I am so glad and happy YOU seem happy and glad. Yes, you do have 3 precious children and that 'coach' you use to be married to; is also a precious dude; as well.

Continue on with all your success. Arizona is lucky to have you!!

Regards,
Greg
