Every now and then it is good to change up your routine. Go out and seek something new.
Being bored with my exercise regimen (Billy Blanks Tae Bo), I decided to try yoga. Not just any kind, but HOT yoga or Bikram Yoga. Hot means the classroom is between 105 to 108 degrees.
I went into the first class as a total novice so everything was a surprise. The teacher told me my only goal was to stay in the room. Eventually she said, it will be like a 90 minute meditation. Um, yeah, maybe years from now! In the first two minutes I thought to myself, "I'm going to suffocate or pass out." I looked around. "Was anyone else feeling the same way?" "Was I alone?" "Why are people standing on one leg with their other leg up in the air with their nose to their toes and not flinching?
I questioned my sanity to continue, but I'm not a quitter. Despite the dizziness, the thoughts of running out and never coming back, I made it through the class. I never could have imagined that I had so many unused muscles in my body. It was difficult to move for a few days, but I went back and am still going. I've learned a little though...Now, I arrive not only on time, but also early. Not because the early bird catches the worm, but because the early bird can secure a position furthest away from the heater !!!!
There is one unexpected side benefit to the class. I will be better prepared to take on the Arizona heat this summer----BRING IT ON !
