May 2007 ArchivesEver see a child drowning? I've witnessed it three times. In each case I rescued those children ... essentially, I suppose, saving their lives. They were kids who knew a little bit about how to swim but were not strong swimmers. They quietly slid under the water, unable to get back to the top on their own. ...Okay, have to talk about American Idol again. I remember watching Jordin Spark's audition and said out loud to my husband.. she is going all the way and winning this thing! And since I'm seldom correct, this time, I get to say, "I was right!" I think like most AI fans, I was grinning ear to ear, cheering, clapping and even got choked up (okay, mabye my eyes even got watery) as Jordin sang her final song when she was named the newest America... They don't call it "the world's oldest profession" for nothing. Prostitution is a problem that touches every community on the planet. Whether anyone acknowledges it or not. ...There's an old saying "pavement is just a way to get to the dirt track" and that will be the case this Memorial Day weekend as the 360 Sprint Cars take the 1/3 mile track at Manzanita Speedway at 35th ave. and Broadway for an Indy 500 weekend. I have so much respect for the two women featured in my story tonight. They agreed to talk about their ugliest moment -- while the television camera was rolling. Depression attacked each of these women, in different forms. Beth Anderson was pregnant with her third child when it happened. All of a sudden, a repressed memory from her childhood began to haunt her. It was something she had never dealt with. In the end, she had a ne... Sisters are a funny thing. You share so much and have so much in common -- history, memories, laughs, tears, and those genetics. ...Racing a Sprint Car is THE most incredible and wild thing I have ever done and I'm really excited because I'm racing again this year. ...If you've never heard of the Phoenix Herpetological Society... you should inquire. ...Is it illegal to drive in reverse in Glendale? To hunt a camel? To let a donkey sleep in your bathtub? If you check certain websites, they tell you these and other wacky laws are still on the books in Arizona and some of it's cities. ...Wow... I've had a crazy couple of months. First, I interviewed a group of swingers. Then I moved on to a story about the self help book turned DVD, "The Secret". Have you heard about this? It promises to share the so-called secret to a better life: A more rewarding, fulfilling and joyful life. Yeah, I know... blah blah... we've heard it all before, some might say au nauseum. But what I found interesting about The Secret is that it... Die hard Nascar fanatics won't miss a race, even if their life depends on it... for a Valley family, this expression holds true! ...What the heck is a haboob? I grew up in the Valley and endured dozens of duststorms and never heard the word until recently. This incorrect description of a sandstorm has apparently made it's way into weather-speak about Arizona. This past weekend, we had an early-season duststorm roll across the Valley. Drivers were faced with a wall of brown dust and high winds. If you caught a glimpse of this storm, surely you were impresse... It seems like just yesterday that we were celebrating an entire summer without a child drowning. Oh, how things have changed. Already this year, six children have drowned in Mesa alone. That is six too many, and it's barely May. Wasn't it cool to see Gordon win at Phoenix a couple of weeks ago? His team really seems to have an advantage with their COT (Car of Tomorrow) program. Heck, after never winning in Phoenix, Gordon may win the fall race at PIR, too. ... |
