Losing a Friend...
By Gary Harper
Even as I write this, I remain in denial....
Jimmy... what a guy! To try and tell you what a fantastic person Jim Cox was would take years. I had the pleasure of working the past 10 years with Jimmy. That's what I called him... Jimmy.
This was a man who truly cared for his craft. You knew when you arrived at a breaking news story with Jimmy that eveything would fall together perfectly. It didn't even have to be breaking. Just your normal everyday story... and Jimmy was on top of it. He had the talent... the knack... the gift... to make things happen for TV. His effort always made me look good.
Having a bad day? Forget about it. Jimmy would slap you back into reality and push you harder than you thought you could be pushed. You loathed him for pushing... but then at the end of the day and your news report had aired... you loved him. You really did. You loved him.... and appreciated him for making you a better journalist that day than you thought you could ever be.
He was also a mechanical genious. He took the engine out of his VW van just so he could tinker with the parts. He put everything back together... by the way. He also did the same thing with a motorcycle he had. As for his home... what a nut. He added on to his house, but never hired a contractor. He obtained the permits and did everything on his own!! Everything!! Wiring, framing, eveything. I asked him how did he learn to do such a thing... and he simply replied, "I read books."
I could go on and on about Jimmy... but I think you get the idea. He was such an incredible person who ran full-throttle all the time. Jimmy, you'll be will be greatly missed...
I am a better person... a better journalist... knowing that he was in my life.

Dear Arizona Family,
My husband and I send our prayers and thoughts to all of you. We watch Channel 3 everyday in fact it is how we start our day. I was with my daughter at Big Kia on Bell Rd picking up her car for repair and in the Lobby we watched along with much of the staff the horrible news unfold before our eyes. I first yelled out of my Gosh Bruce!!! O my gosh poor Lisa I started to cry. It is so sad that we have all lost Scott Bowerbank and Jim Cox. Our hearts and prayers go out to their family's as well.
May God lift you all up in his hands and comfort you and give you peace and help you to go on.
With Deepest Sympathy

To ALL at Channel 3 and Channel 15, We mourn with you at loss of your friends, colleagues and loved ones. Throughout the years the entire news channel has become a part of our families. You are a welcomed sight through our day to day lives. No words can truly comfort any of you but we try. Know that we your public offer our prayers and our hearts and tears to all of you. Like most, yes, Bruce was the first thought in our minds. We are very saddened for his personal loss of a friend and mentor. His interview this morning showed us his courage, loyalty and how your loved ones will always be by your side when we need them the most. My deepest heartfelt sympathies to ALL. J.V. Manzanedo

Dear TV3 as like alot of others did not know any of these heroes personally, but they came into our homes and you feel that you have known them forever. The skies seem so empty now and quiet. They have touched all over our hearts and my thought and prayers are with the family and friends. God Bless.

To all of you at 3TV,our family is so sorry for your loss. Watching all of you each day gets our day off to a great start. Our own family tragedy taught us a long time ago to respect& honor their memories by trying each day to do our best and to help others for them. The joy in helping others can help ease the pain a little more each day. With love, The O'Donnells

Channel 3,
With you we mourn,
Beside you we stand,
Together we'll get through this,
We will hold your hand.
We start each day with you, you make us laugh, and now we cry with you. We did not meet face to face, just on a t.v. screen. We felt that we knew you, somehow strangers become family.
We always knew that if we seen a helicopter in the sky nearby, that we should tune in, because something was happening. Thank you for all you do, to all of you at 3 t.v.... Keep on going, you all make a difference. Let each other know how much they mean to you, and I know that Heaven is Happy to have flying angels........
Peace,

Gary, I just wanted to share my comments with you. I laft them for Royla as well. Please make sure they get to Bruce and Lisa. Thank you...
To the entire Channel 3 family, and I do mean family, I want to send my condolences to you all, especially Bruce and Lisa. I have been in Arizona now for just about 26 years and I have come to accept Channel 3 as my family. I too work in broadcast news at radio station KAWC (broadcast training home for Velka Atherton)as News Director. I have seen a lot of news coverage, but what Scott and Jim did was incredible. Channel 3's work ethic is only surpassed by your closeness as a family, a family I often wished to be a part of. May God bless you all and may He continued to hold each of you in His loving hands. Take comfort in knowing your family members, brothers if you will, are in a much better place and Bruce, always remember, and I borrow from the poem by Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee "HIGH FLIGHT" Scott and Jim have slipped the surly bounds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings (rotor blades): Sunward they have climbed and joined the tumbling mirth--Of sun-split clouds and yes, they have done a hundred things that most of us have not dreamed of...And, while with silent lifting mind they have trod the high untresspassed sanctity of space, yes take comfort Bruce in knowing, that Scott and Jim have reached out and they have indeed, touched the face of God...

Dear TV3 and TV15:
We are deeply sorry for the loss of your "family" members. We the viewers also suffer a great loss for you, the reports, photographers, etc. have been in our homes on a daily basis for years. We came to this valley from South Dakota 10 years again and my husband has watched TV3 for all these years--he is deeply saddened by the tragic deaths that took place. May God be with all of you and the family members of these great heroes.

To my 3 TV Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Words can not express my condolences for your family. You lost two great members of your family and we lost two great members of ours. The Lord has taken them under his wings and now they never have to worry about flying on their own. They will be greatly missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to your family. God Bless!

My husband introduced me to 3TV (the place with more stuff) when I met him 11 years ago. In that time I have come to love (almost) everyone on your news show, especially Bruce and Lisa Hafner, and Scott Bowerbank. I wanted to find a way to give my sympathy with all of you at this most difficult time.
May the warmth of tender memories and the love of those around you bring you comfort and peace. With our deepest sympathy.

Dear 3TV and 15TV,
Words are so inadequate at a time like this. The loss of your collegues, friends and "family" members gives us all sorrows. Although I didn't know any of them personally, I've watched you for many yrs and feel like we are family and all sharing a great loss. My sympathies go out to each of you, and especially Bruce and Lisa. May God's love envelope each of you as you grieve your losses and may you support each other as He supports each of you. My prayers are with you all. And make sure someone cares for Molly, she's lost too.

Dear 3TV,
As I sit here and think "Wow, what a loss" I feel for you and your great "family" my mom and I watch 3tv news everyday, we love being a part of Arizona's Family! And thats what you
are you guys are truly a family. A family who has suffered a great loss, but something that will only bring you all closer. Something that will make you remember the fun, crazy, and joyful times you had with eachother, I am truly sorry for the losses you have suffered, you are in my thoughts and prayers, as are the families of Jim Cox and Scott Bowerbank. They were the faces we saw when we got up in the morning, people who felt like our family because they were seen in our home as much as we were, and people who will be deeply missed.
Sincerely,

To 3TV and the families of Scott Bowerbank and Jim Cox.We would like to send our deepest and heartfelt sympathy to you all. That tragic day as we watch the chase,we could not believe that this was going on.It felt like a very bad dream. We even felt your PAIN and cried with you all.But everytime you showed their smiling faces,it put our heart at ease.Arizona will never be the same.I know that they are flying high and very happy, and just knowing that makes it easier.Everytime I wake up and look towards the White Mountains and the sun is rising,we will always think of Scott and Jim.

We watched the tradgy enfold last Fri. and felt like we knew the 4 who perished. We are truly sorry for your loss. Today, watching the service for Jim and Scott, it felt as if we were saying goodbye to family members. The service was heartfelt and wonderful. So many memories. They will never be forgotten.
