Fab is back

My long lost friend Fab and I got together a few weekends ago in LA. I've been writing about him for a new months now. We were best of friends in college, but had lost touch over the past 10 years.

reunion

It's been about 10 years since I last spoke to my good friend Fab.
More like 14 since we've seen each other.
That came to and end when his girlfriend saw my 3TV blog on him a few months ago.
And I'm happy to say Fab and I are going to get together next week in LA.
Some other college buddies are trying to make the trip too.
Fab is an interesting guy.
He was born in raised in London.
But as I found out during our phone conversation and emails, he's lived in
Madrid, Moscow, Hong Kong and now Buenas Aires in the past decade.
He owns/runs some kind of luxury travel business.
I don't know what that means exactly.
He also has a 3 year old daughter who lives in Hawaii with her mother.
Anyway, I'm excited to see him and see what he's been up to all these years.
And again, we found each other over the world wide web.
I'll let you know how the trip goes when I get back.

Fab is Found

I found my friend Fab.
We talked on the phone on Monday. It was great.
We hadn't spoken in nearly 10 years.
I wrote about Fab in a blog a few months ago.
I was desperate to find him.
We'd been close friends in college, but through
a few organizational mistakes from both of us we
lost touch.
But my blog that made it happen.
His girlfriend was messing around on the computer
and found it.
She called him and said "do you know some guy
named Brian Webb? He's looking for you."
The rest is history.
The internet to the rescue.

Birthday blues

I had another b-day last week.
March 1st.
I'm getting to the age when another b-day is just another day.
I shouldn't complain, I know I'm not that old.
(much closer to 40 than 30)

Glendale Glitters

I was at the Fiesta Bowl on Monday. What a game huh!?!
Too bad for me I was in the parking lot -- preparing a story for the 10pm news.
I missed it all!!!.
Those are the breaks.

Anyway, I can't help but get excited to be living in a metropolitan area with all this action.
The sporting events alone are world class.
Three big bowl games in a few weeks... followed by the Superbowl next year. Wow!
I just moved here from Kansas City and let me tell you, smaller midwest cities like
that would kill for just one bowl game.

It is a little sad to me that the stadium was built out in the suburbs. I love the electricity of a bussling downtown. ( I grew up in small town Kansas, population 16,000 )
But, in my opinion Glendale grabbed the ball, went for it and seems to be doing it right. With the Coyotes playing next door and the addition of the Westgate shopping district, Glendale is now on the map as a first rate destination.
And with many more exciting events to come, I'm looking forward to getting inside to see the action.

Go Glendale!!!

Finding Fab

My best friend in college was Fabrizio Khanlari aka Fab
We went to Regis University in Denver in the late 80's.
He was there from London, England. I was there from Newton, Kansas.
But somehow we had a lot in common.

Thinking about animal testing

I'm doing a story on an animal testing company called Covance, hoping to build a facility in Chandler.

To stop it, several animal rights groups are sending a graphic video to some 23,000 registered voters this week.

I watched the video myself today on an animal-rights Web site, pcrm.org. It shows monkeys being tested at the company. Some of it is pretty hard to watch.

I interviewed a woman in Chandler about getting a DVD like that.

She said that if animal testing can help people, she is for it.But she really doesn't want to see it in her home. I would have to agree.

It's a tough call and the video is even tougher to watch.Few people want to see any living thing used as a guinea pig.

But if it helps people in the future, is it the right thing to do?

I'll admit, it makes you think.

I guess that's mission accomplished by the animal rights groups, huh?

Wednesday in the news room

Busy day today in the newsroom.

Working on two stories so far.

One is on a former wife involved with the polygamists in Colorado City. Another 3TV news crew shot an interview with her today as she prepared to drive there to see some of her family members who still live there. She packed a bullet proof vest along with her clothing. And was also on the phone saying she wanted to "wave to Warren Jeffs with him behind bars".

The second story is about a Goodyear High School teacher/coach who was badly hurt in a freak car accident.

A large sharp object flew through the windshield of his car, hit him and caused him to fall 40 feet off the highway. A good Samaritan stopped and cared for him, probably saving his life.

We're hoping to chat with his students and the woman who helped him.

For me it's strange to be doing a story that doens't have something to do with the Ahwatukee little league baseball team.

Photographer Armando Aguilera and I followed the team to the little league world series in Pennsylvania and have done a story on the team most everyday for the past two weeks.

We really had a great time getting to know the players, coaches and parents.
1,2,3 DAWGS! 1,2,3 RUFF!

Oh, and by the way, Tina, our internet guru, really likes my watch today!
