Hopi Prayer

In addition to the lovely poem read at the Cox- Bowerbank memorial, I'd also like to post another sent by a viewer. This one is a familiar one, it was part of the services for fallen soldier, Lori Ann Piestewa, killed in Iraq. It is the Hopi prayer, and is a beautiful sentiment.

Poem Read at Memorial Service

Many of you wanted access to the poem Jim Cox's sister read at Tuesday's service.
Elaine was kind enough to email it to me. Here it is, as written by Ruth Ann Mahaffey:

Goodbye Buddy!

Jim Cox was a friend. He is- was a really unforgettable guy. Talented, passionate, funny, unpredictable. He could have a fierce temper, and a ridiculously funny sense of humor. He was always kind and gentle with me, but he could be tough on people. He demanded excellence. As they say he "didn't suffer fools", or tolerate divas. He made me laugh. He loved women, was a talented carpenter who took great pride in re-doing his own home, he loved golf, gadgets and text messaging, and sailing. He often texted me at night for quickie love advice. If you were in his inner circle, he didn't hesitate to spill the beans on EVERYTHING. I enjoyed those talks. He would tease my husband by calling him my pet names, and say he wanted someone to be "schmoopys" with too. I really wanted to see him marry, I think he would have been a great Dad. They say kids are innately good judges of character. Jim came home with me to LA for a shoot this year, my 4 year old niece fell in love with him. That night she got in trouble at the dinner table for saying a bad word. She was scolded and taken into a corner. When she returned, she looked at a table full of relatives, and instead turned to Jim. "Jiiimmm.... I've been crying", she said. She knew he'd care right from the start. This morning, it is my turn to tell my friend and colleague Jim Cox the same thing.

Dreamy Details

OK, so as usual I am behind on my blogging, and I really wanted to share a bit of my vacation. We went to Cabo San Lucas for 4 days and had an amazing time. My husband and I actually took naps, read our books, and truly relaxed. I was in awe of the beautiful place we stayed, it was a splurge but worth it thanks to the gorgeous scenery, over the top service, and attention to detail. The resort is called the One & Only Palmilla. When you get there, you are greeted with a "welcome popsicle" and are checked in right in your room! (no waiting at a front desk, there really isn't one). Then there's welcome tequila, lime & salt in your room! It was those little things that made us giggle like little kids, treat after treat. But the one silly thing I came home talking about: a customized sewing kit- prepped with threads that match the clothes we brought!!!!! To me, if I worked in the hotel industry I would steal that idea in a blink. We also saw Kate Beckinsale (Pearl Harbor, Click, The Aviator) at the pool!
Pasmore said, "did you talk to her... tell her you've interviewed her or something???"
NO WAY! I'd fear rejection way too much! Anyway, Cabo is just a 2 hr or so flight from Phoenix, and you can be in a paradise before you know it. But one warning: woooo it is humid!

what a group of women!

I had the coolest night. I hosted a motivational/self-esteem workshop at a place called Fresh Start Women's Resource Center. This is a facility in Phoenix at McDowell and 11th st., that provides countless programs to better women's lives. Last night, I was joined by about 25 women- I was nervous about the event. First, I thought no one would show. Second, I truly doubted I had any insight to offer them- I'm used to speaking to kids, but these are women with stories of their own. But from the second we got started, we are laughing and sharing and their energy and their interest made the experience cathartic and unforgettable. The workshop was scheduled from 6-8pm, and it was after 8 when we were done talking. When I asked for questions at the end, the most amazing thing happened... these women started sharing their own stories, opening up about the crossroads they were facing. Then, they started offering help to each other. They exchanged phone numbers, they stayed after and hugged. This place is great- and whether you're in a tough spot right now, or just looking to expand your interests, abilities, or friendship circle- I highly recommend checking out Fresh Start. And if you have some skill you're willing to share, this is the place. You'll get back even more than you give- promise.

Sisters

Sisters are a funny thing. You share so much and have so much in common -- history, memories, laughs, tears, and those genetics.

Good books

I should have done this before Valentine's Day, because there's nothing like a good book to cuddle up to for company, but here it is. I love to read. I don't always make enough time for it (and make too much time for reality TV), but when I read something good , it is very fulfilling. So here, I'll pass on a few recommendations.

Holiday hoopla

We are mid-month of December and it is holiday mania. Last Friday we wrapped up the GMAZ mall shows, which were a lot of fun. We had an amazing turnout each and every week- in spite of early hours and cold temps. I think the crowd at Metro Center this past Friday might have been the liveliest yet.

Two Left Feet

As a kid I loved to dance. I laugh when I see my nearly 4 year old neice, because she is always "performing" and moving, moving, moving. That's how I was. With that said, I haven't performed any type of dance or routine in front of an audience in exactly 15 years. That will change this Saturday night, for better or worse.

A sneak peek at 3TV's new shows

As if getting used to a new schedule (alarm clock: bbbbrrrrrrzzzzz- it is 3:15am!) this week wouldn't keep me busy enough, we decided to head to L.A. for two days of special shoots. But no complaints here, there's nothing like a change of pace.

Photographer Jim Cox (That's him with Megan Mullally.) and I hopped on a plane early Tuesday morning, and from LAX we headed to Cuver Studios in Culver City, Calif.

We spent the day checking out the ins and outs of a new daytime talk show, "The Greg Behrendt Show". You might know Greg -- he is the author of two best-selling advice books, "He's Just Not That Into You" and "It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken". He is a writer and stand-up comic who is going for a rock-and-roll-Dr.-Phil vibe with the show. It airs here on 3TV beginning Sept. 12.

There we ran into newlyweds Adrienne Curry and Christopher Knight, and Dr. Drew Pinsky. These interviews will air to coincide with the show's launch. The topic of the day: "Marriage ruined my relationship". It's a little distressing for an engaged-to-be-married reporter, but I'm OK.

The next day it was Hollywood, Calif., and the woman we know and love as Karen Walker on "Will & Grace." "The Megan Mullally Show" debuts on 3TV Sept. 18, and sitting down with her was a treat.

The show is less Oprah and more Letterman, with celebrity guests, musical performances, and a lot of comedy.

She told me I'm more glamorous than Paris Hilton, and she cooed over my dog's photo. Robaire (Isn't he cute!) is a Poochon (Bichon-Frise and Poodle mix), and Megan Mullally (who has poodles) says she wants one, too. I offered him to her as a guest on the show; she said she'd think about him as a potential co-host.

All in a day's work, and it was back to the Valley of the Sun, home sweet home.

That is, until the alarm went off in the dark of night.
