Hidden Treasures

We are so lucky to live in this incredible state. Where else can you go from desert, to red rocks to high mountain magic in a matter of hours?
I just finished another series of my favorite assignments this past week. We call them Arizona Family Adventures, three nights of taking you folks to some of my most loved spots. This time, we centered on day trips from the valley, because we know everybody is busy, making it hard to take three or four days for a trip to places like Monument Valley or the White Mountains.

Wow. What a punch in the gut.

We take the "family" part of Arizona's Family seriously, and now our family has lost two of it's brightest lights. It would be so easy to write a book on each of these guys.

Fire Restrictions

Summer's here and the time is right, for vacations, long weekends and day trips to our incredible National Forests. And as usual, our time in the forest again goes hand in hand with the driest conditions of the year. That means fire restrictions.

Ch-ch-ch- changes

It's that time of year again. You know, when the temperatures finally dip down below 100, sometimes even into the 90's. it's called October and in the high country, the weather is beautiful.

Our fair state

Face it, most of us here in our fair state are from some place else...many from spots in the country where there're these tall things, called "trees" with green things, known as "leaves" sticking out of them.

Wonderful places

Almost every spring, I'm blessed to do a report on a wonderful place called Canaan in the Desert.
Just south of Shea Blvd. on 40th street in Phoenix, this peaceful garden focuses on the crucifixion story. Trails through lush desert plants lead to different stations where stone carvings reveal the last days of Jesus.

MOUNTAIN PARKS

This is the time of year to take to the trails, and those trails are right here in the valley.

Displaced burrowing owls

As we build our homes throughout the desert, we misplace the homes of others. I'm talking about burrowing owls, the only birds of prey that live underground.
