With its sleek bar, abstract art and sophisticated black and tan color scheme, Madelyn's emotes a big city vibe that belies its suburban shopping mall location. Chef-owner Brian Ford, who honed his skills at Quiessence at The Farm at South Mountain, proves his commitment to locally grown produce, free-range meats and artisan cheeses through his eclectic menu, which has a big city vibe of its own. Despite its white tablecloths and upscale prices, Madelyn's has won the hearts and minds of locals who like Ford's wine list (particularly his handful of $20 bottles), happy hour nibbles, friendly staff and creative selections. The seasonal menu is tweaked frequently but you may find the scallops appetizer in some form or other (mine was served with pancetta-studded asparagus risotto) or the Cajun fondue pot, both of which are terrific. Grilled flat-iron steak, served with fries and chimichurri sauce, is one of the most satisfying entrees, but daily fish specials can be lovely too. When it's time for dessert, look for an almond-flavored fruit galette, served with ginger ice cream. Oh my! Dinner Tu-Su. $$$
