With its chartreuse backlit wine bar, community table and modern artwork, this sleek space bears absolutely no resemblance to its traditional Indian restaurant counterparts. Bombay Spice offers fresh, healthy Indian-inspired fare which founder John Kapoor (a pharmacist from India) describes as "Indian food redefined." The menu offers fast food-like wraps and bowls ($8.95) as well as "Bombay Tapas," which include samosas, Indian-spiced kebabs, lentil cakes and chickpea ceviche. Artfully presented combo plates are composed of two selections of your choice (from 15 possibilities), served with basmati or brown rice plus chapati (which looks and tastes a lot like a whole-wheat tortilla). This is Indian food for the masses -- quick, inexpensive and not particularly spicy. If you're an Indian food maven who loves the heat, heaviness and utter richness of traditional, gut-bomb Indian food, Bombay Spice's dairy-free, olive oiled version of India-Lite may seem a bit wimpy. But taken for what it is, there's no denying this fantastic looking place represents a positive step into the future. Tatum location now open. Lunch and dinner daily. $
